Here we love drains and at the first sign of a blockage, we’re there, sorting it out before the problem goes from bad to worse. A blocked drain can cause all kinds of problems if you don’t spot it in time, which isn’t easy if you don’t know the signs. We don’t want that happening to you, so we suggest keeping an eye out for the following:

1. Unusual noises

If there’s a clog in your drains, the water running through the surrounding pipes will behave differently. Listen out for gurgling sounds or bubbling when you use the sink or flush the toilet. The water is likely trying to find another course.

2. Slow draining

Take a look at your washing machine, kitchen drains and shower, are they draining slower than normal? If so, a clog could be developing in the drains. Contact a plumber before you have a full-blown blockage on your hands.

3. Standing water

Slow draining water is the first warning that you have a drainage problem. Standing water in your shower, sink or washing machine is the next warning and it’s telling you the problem is getting worse. If this occurs, waste no more time. Call a plumber.

4. A horrible smell

If the drains aren’t working properly, waste and sewage can build up in the system. This will fester in the pipes and release a strong, unpleasant smell into the adjacent rooms, which is especially nasty in the summer when the weather is warmer.

If you notice any of these signs, don’t hesitate to act. Contact us immediately and we will be happy to unblock your drains. We can also conduct a drain survey if you know you have a drain blockage but don’t know what is causing the problem.
